Week 10 Term 2

This week started with a very special assembly to say farewell to Christine, our Deputy Principal who has been at Nelson Central for 40 years.
Children from Kahikatea syndicate presented her with a special Maori cloak......
.....Totara gave a passionate performance of the school haka......
...... and all of us in Kowhai drew a self portrait and then put these together to make a unique t-towel for her.
This week we went to the Suter Art gallery for a Kowhaiwhai workshop. This was a great hands on opportunity for fun learning. Why not take the time in the holidays to go along to the Suter and let your child be your teacher!
On Thursday many of us wore green to recognise, and raise money for, Fragile-X.

We also did some great greeen writing using the magnetic words we were given by a family who were in Room 10 a few years ago.
What a great way to mark reaching the middle of the school year. All our families who were in Nelson attended the student led conferences on Wednesday. Well done and thank you to you all! Have a look at slide show below to see what went on and how the children shared their learning so confidently.
The week, and the term, ended with a school hangi.

This was a new experience for many of us and we prepared by watching parts of the YouTube clip below. You might liek to sahre it again with the child and see how they relate to now that they have actually been present at the raising of a hangi.
